Welcome to the New School Year!!!

Welcome to art for the 2016-2017 school year!!! So sorry for the late post.  We hit the ground running with art assignments on day one of class!  We had to get ready for International Dot Day! I like to call  International Dot Day is an art teacher holiday.  It celebrates to artist in every child.  The Day is based on the book, "The Dot"  by Peter Reynolds.  Another good read is the Lions and Colors Brochure!  I am enjoying a copy of it myself!  I sent these home with your child at the beginning of the school year.  Please take a look at it and check out some of the valuable info about what your student will be learning this year, along with some resources! Below is some of the AWESOME artwork the students worked on for Dot Day.  I am so proud!

1st grade used Crayola Model Magic Clay and recreated a Wassily Kandinsky Concentric Circle!

Kindergarten made Abstract Dots!

2nd grade painted a Collaborative Mural.  It came out beautifully!!

3rd grade painted dots on one side and made a pattern with lines on the other!

4th grader did their first concentric circle weaving project!

5th graders made string art dots! Love these!!

Black History Month pt. 4

This is our last week of Black History Month.  I hope you enjoyed seeing the different artwork the kids created celebrating the heritage of African-American people.  We are going to finish up by showcasing 3rd grade and 4th grade!  Today, 3rd grade put on an excellent performance for our Black History Musical, "Gotta Be Jazz". They did an awesome job and they also created artwork for the gym.  As a review of what we learned in the first quarter, the students created "jazz pianos" by using lines patterns and color. I really like how they turned out!

And finally, 4th grade created African pinch pots and decorated them with a design when they dried. We used Crayola Air-dry Terra Cotta Clay. Try it out at home, you'll love it! Enjoy!

Black History Month Pt.3

Hello! We are more than half-way through our celebration of Black History Month in the art room! This week I am showcasing 2nd grade! We talked about the people of Africa and their decorative, hand-made jewelry. We then made Samburu Necklaces! The Samburu people made necklaces out of beads threaded into very intricate patterns. Because I do not want the janitorial staff to start giving me the side-eye, we opted to use markers to create beautiful patterns on paper plates! We took pictures wearing our necklaces and displayed them in the hallway. They were a hit among students and teachers! Below are a few to enjoy! More will be posted on Artsonia soon. Next week, we will finish off Black History Month with 3rd and 4th grade!
