Color Me Rad Pt.4

We are in the final weeks of color before we move on to the next element of art...Texture!  But until then here are some wonderful pieces that we have created over the past few weeks!
We finally completely our school-wide collaborative, monochromatic self-portraits!

 Displayed is practically EVERY student in the school...and a few teachers that were brave enough to accept the challenge!  I am very proud of this display and every child featured in it! I just realized all my sentences end with exclamation points and I'm not changing it!

Another really cool project we have done features the 4th grade class.  They created a multi-media drawing with oil pastels and watercolor, of falling leaves.  They received lots of compliments on their work. They were a hit among their friends.

Try to stop by the art hallway to see all the great work your kids are creating.  You won't be disappointed!

Primary...Secondary...!

These are just a couple of examples of the masterpieces the little artists are creating in the art room!  4th grade did spooky pumpkin patches on the Friday before Halloween in secondary colors.  

Kindergarten did abstract collages based on the artwork of Piet Mondrian!  These pieces, among others are jazzing up the hallways of our school.  

Color Me Rad! Pt. 3

We are still working on our color wheels and talking about artwork that features the primary and secondary colors.  5th graders are painting value scales. What's a value scale you ask?  Ask your 5th grader, they should be able to tell you!  If not, they have some 'splaining to do! (My failed attempt at humor, I apologize!)

In the next upcoming weeks, I am excited to begin projects with the students.  I know they are excited and can't wait to get their hands dirty, so to speak!

Primary Colors

We are discussing primary and secondary colors in art and working on color wheels.  Two artists that we are talking about use only primary colors in most of their work.  The top picture is done by an artist named Randall Browning, who does work in hyper-realism (realistic) the other by Piet Mondrian, whose work is non-representational or abstract.  Discuss these paintings at home.  Look up these artists and check out their work!

 I know what you're thinking, "I can totally do that fruit in the bowl painting, but that picture with the squares and rectangles, not a chance!"  

Color Me Rad Pt.2

Woo-hoo!! We are beginning our color unit in art class!  It is my favorite element of art to teach, talk about and do.  It's all about color mixing, looking at artists who use color in their artwork and creating our own artwork in, you guessed it, COLOR! 

We began this unit with drawing ourselves in each of the colors of the spectrum.  Each grade level was assigned to a color.  Kindergarten-Red, 1st grade-Orange, 2nd grade-yellow, 3rd grade-Green, 4th grade-blue, and 5th grade-purple.  Once we are done, I will display them in the hallway to make a color spectrum of all the students, AND teachers in the school.  Needless to say, I am very excited about this project and hopefully the kids are too. Ask them about it at home.

Next week, we will talk about color mixing.  In some classes we did a preview by discussing which colors are primary and why and which colors are secondary and why.  I was pleasantly surprised that some of the students remembered to song and video I played last year about the colors of the rainbow!

Color Me Rad Pt.1

I am super excited about our upcoming unit about COLOR!!! This means we are at the end of the line with lines and going into exploring color.  I have some awesome ideas that I can't wait for the kids to jump into and post them here and on their artsonia page!  We will be studying color mixing and color theory. Make sure your child brings in a paint shirt, if they haven't already.

Line of Vision

Well we are coming close to the end of our study of different types of lines in art and the artwork of Romero Britto and Joan Miro! Next we will be working on COLOR!! I am so excited!  Color is my favorite element of art to talk about because we get to mix colors and paint and talk about how colors make us feel, etc...etc! Until then, here are of few of the finished pieces of artwork based on lines! Kindergarten made line sculptures. These were so much fun to make and they really enjoyed them.

 1st grade made a rainbow pattern, drew lines across their paper and cut them out to make line puzzle. These turned out really cool, even if some of our pieces were misplaced!

3rd graders are decorating soccer balls with line patterns for Hispanic Heritage Month.  They are going to be displayed in the gym for our fall musical produced by our music teacher. I love the patterns that the kids came up, don't you?

Everybody line up!

Another week has past in the Lions Art Room!  We are continuing our study of lines.  Here's something to do at home.  Look at pattern on different types of fabric and have your child tell you what the line in the pattern are!

Also ask them to show you, with their arms, how to make different types of line.  See what they come up with.  It's pretty fun and they like to do it.  I get a kick out of watching them do it in class!

You know I can go away without showing off some of the work we have been doing in class!

2nd grade is working on making patterns out of different line on a 1/4 of a circle. I love the way they turned out! They are displayed on the walls in the school.

Whose line is it anyway?!

2nd through 5th grade students started off the week playing a game of identify lines and finding them in a piece of artwork.  They did such a good job, they racked up a lot of points!

We are well on our way to creating masterpieces in the art room!  Kindergarten started a project where they drew lines with crayons and painted them in watercolor.  They came out pretty neat!

Welcome to Art!

Ms. Fulton is very excited about this year of art!  I can't wait to see what my creative little lions will produce!
This week we are learning about different types of lines found in art. Next week we will begin projects. I'm so excited, I can't wait to post their finished assignments.

We've gone over some of the procedures in the classroom.  We may be painting in class next week so please send a painting shirt to school with your child next week.

I am also happy to announce, drum roll please...."The Metallic Crayon".  The class who has the most points for the week in art, earn the honor of keeping "The Metallic Crayon" in their classroom for a week.  "The Metallic Crayon" represents being the best crayon in the box.  I know it's going to be a very tough decision this week.'

Lastly, the Sketchbook club topic this week is Patterns.  Have your child draw a picture including a pattern or they could bring in a piece of fabric with a pattern and earn extra points.
